KERRY'S NOTES: ‘Power lines in rural Africa represent a lifeline to modernity but not necessary for those who live under them. The power lines that cut across rural landscapes are often to carry electricity to larger urban centres rather than the small villages they pass over. Unfortunately having power lines overhead does not instantly lift a rural area out of poverty.’
