NOTES: This work was inspired by vintage fruit crate labels which often portray an idealized vision of food production. Crate labels were created to give a tantalizing image of warm tropical places for us customers stuck in colder climates. My work obviously speaks more to the reality of food production in these countries and the lingering hangover of colonialism in Africa. Where the majority of people do not participate in any meaningful way in the rich bounty, but eke out an existence on the margins.
